The Rogers HTC Magic HoFo Community ROM

android_logo

Today I have created a new ROM for the HoFo community in the hope that it will be used as a seed for further development. All of the other ROM’s that I have tried had missing features or they were extremely buggy and power hungry. This ROM is based on the orginal Rogers ROM, so everything works and it is stable as the original. Enjoy!

You can also follow these updates in the Howard Forums discussion thread: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1547785

N.B. – If you get an error during an update please upgrade to the 2005 SPL: http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/

If you want to drastically increase your battery life, follow these commands:

Settings –> Wireless controls –> Mobile networks –> Enable always-on mobile (uncheck it)

To delete Teeter, AziLink and MarketEnabler, apply the following command first:

adb remount

Then depending on which application you want to delete, use one of these commands:

Teeter: adb shell rm -r /system/app/teeter*

AziLink: adb shell rm -r /system/app/azilink*

MarketEnabler: adb shell rm -r /system/app/MarketEnabler*

Please keep in mind that you DO have to wipe if you are coming from a different ROM.

To use the adb console in version 2.0 +, please update to the latest SDK.

  1. I love this! The only fix so far for the MMS timestamp issue. Certainly wish you would port HERO over. IPTABLES isn’t included in the Rogers ROM, wondering if you would be able to fix that up.

    • iptables and netfilter will be added once HTC releases their source code, which should happen in the following weeks. In addition, we’ll be able to add the multi-touch browser…

  2. You realise that rather than typing three commands:

    adb shell
    su
    mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock03 /system

    you can simply type:

    adb remount

Might make the instructions a little simpler ;)

  3. First, thanks a lot for this ROM. Really stable and functional (tethering is great!)

Someone knows where I could get a black/dark (not necessarily “Heroish”) theme for this ROM, like the various ones available for Cyanogen Roms?

    Thanks again.

  4. Just upgraded to 2.03 and it looks really good so far. Not sure on the battery life yet either but will report back.

One question, these ROMs don’t seem to work with the QuickBoot app but the ION ROM does. Any idea why that might be?

The QuickBoot is nice because you can boot right into recovery mode without being connected and flash a new ROM.

  5. Your ROM worked just fine up to v.2.2.7 ..cant seem to install v.3 and up, eventhough i wipe.

when the lock screen appears after while -the phone simply reboots, and i haven’t been able to find help in any forum what so ever :P

Pity ..i was really looking forward to the new releases.

Keep up the good work though – everybody else seems to have no problem installing.

  6. ..my appologies – human error turned out to be the culprit ..lack of patience; By not interacting with the screen, until at least my carrier was detected i succeeed in preventing the phone to reboot :)

Install was a success afterall – Thanx

  7. Hi, thank you for this great rom, it’s pretty stable and does what I want. However, could it be possible to introduce French locales + dictionary ? I know it comes with the base Rogers rom, and it would be very liked, I know a lot of people in Quebec that would like to have this feature back.

  8. Hi!
Thank you for the great work you made in this rom.

I’m using 3.0.8 version and I’m experiencing some crashes (phone freeze for three seconds and reboot).

One crash happened maybe when ‘locale’ changed my configuration (I’m not sure, I was driving).

Another happened when I used google maps’s street view.

I dunno if this can be helpful, but if you wanna investigate feel free to ask me everything.

    P.s. I have a 32A Magic

  9. Can you recommend swap/fs partition sizes for your rom? My rogers/32a is running 308 and it all looks good but I’m just wondering…

The only thing I’ve noticed is that the phone can no longer find my stereo bluetooth headset. Is there any hack or something that I can do in the short term to get it to work? Does stereo BT work in 307 or 306?

  10. Hi,

I recently updated my HTC Magic with the ROM update of Rogers … After this I have a lot of problem with the bluethoot connection with my car system (Mazda 3 2010). Until the update everything work fine (… except no sound on my car speaker when I’d try to play some mp3 on my phone). In breif, the main problem is the connections (tel and audio) is confirmed for my car system but when I’d take a look on my phone … I see “connecting …” and if I try to make a call … everything is jammed. I try almost everything … Any suggestions ???

    Thanks in avance …
    Eric
